THEY ARE AFRAID TO RETURN TO IRAN!! 😳
After the end of the AFC Women's Asian Cup, a huge scandal erupted: at least five players from the Iran Women's National Football Team reportedly fled the team camp and have requested asylum in Australia.
The situation stems from the immense pressure they faced after refusing to sing the national anthem of the regime during their opening match of the tournament. Iranian state television later labeled them “traitors in times of war.”
The story had a dramatic ending: after their final group-stage match against the Philippines Women's National Football Team, tensions erupted outside the stadium. Iranian fans protesting at the scene blocked the team bus, shouting “SAVE OUR GIRLS”, demanding that the players be allowed to remain in Australia to avoid possible reprisals if they return to Iran.
If they go back to their home country, many fear the worst for their safety. Even the United States Government has reportedly urged that political asylum be granted to them in Australia.
