EVERY LEADERS WISH

AN ASSOCIATE WHO UNDERSTANDS THAT HIS LEADER IS A MAN

No matter how anointed someone is, they are still human. The most powerful man of God you admire is still a man—a man of God. That means he is first a man, before he is a man of God.

If you’re going to succeed in your God-given mandate as an associate, you must grasp this reality: your general overseer, despite the divine power he carries, is still a man—with both strengths and weaknesses.

Proximity will give you access to his humanity. Before I became one of the mentees of my general overseer—and eventually an associate pastor—I was distant. I had never sat in a car with him. I had never shared a room with him. But as I drew closer, I began to witness his human side. Proximity exposed me to his nakedness.

Only the sons of Noah can see his nakedness—because his nakedness is found inside his tent. That means only those who are close will ever experience it.

As an associate, the closer you get to your general overseer, the more aware you will become of his humanity. And not all of it will be flattering.

Some of it may be how he eats—you might not even like the way he chews. Or how he sleeps. People have no control over their behavior while asleep. Some snore, some fart, some drool, and others sleep with their mouths wide open. When you are in close quarters, you will notice how tired he gets. You may discover his fears, his hobbies, and even his family issues.

Proximity reveals humanity.

And yet, as an associate, you must learn to reconcile the divine mandate on his life with his human limitations. The anointing does not cancel out the man. You must be able to honor both.
